Car Accidents Attorney
in Portland, Oregon

Car accidents alter a person’s life — a person’s well-being — in the blink of an eye. As Portland’s population continues to grow, and as the number of commuters grows with it, the image of an upturned SUV on the side of the highway has become far too common. If you or someone you love has been injured in a car wreck due to another driver’s negligence, the pain, frustration, and confusion can be a heavy burden to bear. Take solace in the fact that here at Injury Lawyer PDX, LLC, I will work with you to provide a steady hand at the wheel in this turbulent time. I’ve been helping individuals and families for nearly three decades in the entire state of Oregon navigate auto accident claims.

What Does Negligence on the Road Look Like?

If you're wondering whether or not you have a strong case on your hands, you should be aware that the answer may hinge on the presence of the other driver’s negligence. “Negligence” is simply another word for careless behavior. Here are some examples of negligence on the road:

  • Driving while intoxicated
  • Driving while using a cell phone or otherwise preoccupied
  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Driving carelessly or recklessly in general

Additionally, damaged vehicles and over-crowded cars can also be signs of negligence on the road.

What to Do After an Auto Accident in Portland, OR

If you've been in a car accident in Portland, Bend, or anywhere else in Oregon, here's what you need to do:

  • Stop your car as safely as possible. In Oregon, not stopping after you have caused property damage or injury to another person is considered a hit-and-run.
  • “Steer it and clear it.” If no one is badly hurt and both vehicles can be moved out of traffic, do so. If it seems unsafe to move the vehicles, leave them as they are.
  • Assess the situation. Talk to everyone involved. See if anyone requires emergency medical attention. Take down names, addresses, driver's license numbers, vehicle identification numbers, license place numbers, insurance company information, and policy numbers. Take any photos you may need.
  • Immediately notify the police. According to Oregon law, you must notify local police as soon as possible after an accident. If you had to call 911 to address a medical emergency, then no additional reporting is required. Otherwise, it's best to call the Portland Police as soon as possible so that the police can conduct an investigation and file a report. Additionally, drivers involved in an accident must file an "Oregon Traffic Accident and Insurance Report" with their local DMV office within 72 hours.
  • Contact your legal team before talking to any insurance company. If you've been injured due to negligence, this is where I come in. The insurance companies and adjusters may not have your best interests at heart, seeking only monetary gain.
